ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY:

Since its founding in 1998, the mission of the Apalachicola Bay and River Keeper, Inc. (now doing business as the Apalachicola Riverkeeper) mission has been to advocate for and secure the protection and stewardship of the Apalachicola River and Bay, its tributaries and watersheds. The Apalachicola Riverkeeper works closely with our local community. Our strength as advocates for the Apalachicola River and Bay comes from our relationshisps not only our friends in Apalachicola but throughout the 107 mile basin and through our volunteers, donors, members and supporters. Thank you for your steadfast support.

We are led by our local volunteer Board of Directors and our over 900 members. Our staff is composed of Riverkeeper Dan Tonsmeire, Deputy Director Meg Nelson, Operations and Outreach Coordinator Kayd Selden, and Grant Writer and Waterkeeper Attorney Andrew Jubal Smith. We are one of 197 “Keepers” in the Waterkeeper Alliance.
